Proposed Metrorail(WMATA) Operating Lines

Disclaimer: The below information in a informational proposal ONLY. There is no current plans (to our knowledge) to officially realign the Metrorail system.

Here's a quick overview of what the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) can implement to improve passenger service on currently operating and planned system.

Current Red Line: Glenmont - Shady Grove / Silver Spring - Grovsenor
Current Blue Line: Largo Town Center - Franconia Springfield
Current Orange Line: New Carrollton - Vienna
Current Yellow Line: Ft. Totten - Huntington / Mt.Vernon Sq - Huntington
Current Green Line: Greenbelt -Branch Ave.

Proposed Red Line:

Shady Grove - New York Ave
Glenmont - Farragut North
Farragut North - New York Ave (Rush Hour Shuttle)

Proposed Blue Line:
Huntington - Greenbelt (via Fenwick Bridge)

Proposed Orange Line:
Largo Town Center - Ballston
Vienna - Stadium Armory

Proposed N Route (Silver Line):
New Carrollton - Route 722
Dulles Airport - Stadium Armory

Proposed Green Line:
Branch Avenue - Mt. Vernon Sq.

This alignment will reduce the crush loads on current trains that are the result of some passengers having to travel through the core section of the system, while others are either commuting to, from, or within the core system itself.
